Esperanza Rose’s Enchanted Forest Nursery
I am so thrilled to share a look inside my Enchanted Forest nursery for our daughter, Esperanza Rose. I wanted her room to feel magical and a little mystical—not your typical baby room.
I kept the space light and open by painting the walls a warm cream and chose white curtains with floral embroidery. Then, I lined the windows with garlands of ferns and draped flowers. I topped it off with colorful butterflies, which added the perfect magical touch.
There are little enchanted moments sprinkled throughout her room. I absolutely adore her glowing mushroom nightlight and the custom wooden name sign gifted by my auntie.
I wanted Esperanza to be surrounded by the love and handmade art of her ancestors. She has handkerchiefs from her great-great-grandmother who lived in Mexico, paintings from her Auntie Angelique, a handwritten note about love and motherhood from my grandmother, and crocheted blankets from her Aunt Jasmine and, of course, from me.
I made Esperanza two special blankets: The Honey Bee Blanket, which felt just right for her enchanted forest nursery, and The Blooming Rose Afghan, which is a new design and a tribute to her middle name, Rose.
To celebrate the arrival of our baby girl, I’m releasing both of her baby blanket designs as patterns! Stay tuned for their release!
The Honey Bee Blanket is one I’ve made before. It is inspired by other versions of honey comb crochet blankets out there but over time, mine has taken its own life so I thought it would be appropriate to release my version as a pattern. It started as a much simpler design, but after making it for several babies in my life, I’ve added 3D flowers, developed my own bumble bee appliqué, and added a ruffled border. It’s such a sweet pattern for any baby and can easily be made gender-neutral.
The Blooming Rose Afghan is a floral play on classic granny squares. The 3D flowers give it texture and life, and the delicate lace borders were inspired by my favorite design element of all time: Mexican tile. I added tassels on the edges for a playful finishing touch. This design is a great stash buster, with endless possibilities for color pallets. I went with a Christmas-themed palette since she’ll be a newborn in December.
Creating the nursery for our baby girl has been a magical experience. My husband and I are so excited to welcome our first baby into the world and I wanted to create a beautiful and peaceful place for her to spend the first moments of her life.
Esperanza means “hope” in Spanish and I have so many hopes and dreams for her. Most of all, I hope she will be a happy, healthy girl who knows how much she is loved.
Our whole family is waiting in anticipation for her arrival.
