Glittering in Green

Hand holding glittery green yarn ball from Hobbii, with Christmas lights and Grinch ornament on a decorated holiday tree.

When asked to join the Hobbii Sparkle Season challenge, I could not resist! You know how I feel about sparkles ;)

I chose a stunning new yarn that I have never worked with before called “Flash It.” It is made of viscos and has metallic threads woven in giving it so much glitter!!

Handmade green crochet dress in progress with beadwork, styled on mannequin and crafted by Dominique Calvillo.

I wanted to create a dress that emulates the flapper girl style of the 1920s. I have always been fascinated by the geometry of the Art Deco era and wanted to see if I could create something similar with crochet. I had never made a dress with this style of construction before, and though it took a few tries and lots of unraveling, I must say I am thrilled with the result.

I found some large iridescent beads and went to town with the beading! I tried some new beading techniques and made drapes with beads over the fabric to give it a layered look and create some movement in the design.

I will not be releasing a pattern for this dress however, I am offering subscriptions on Instagram and will be explaining the full process of design to my subscribers. I am so thrilled to be offering more in-depth explanations of my one-of-a-kind designs for those who want a closer look at my creative process.
