Sparkles on a Tuesday Entry 1

I know I've been a little quiet lately (my bad), but I've actually been very busy crocheting this summer.

While getting my collection into a new store at the Beverly Center, keeping up with custom orders, and chasing around my baby Esperanza, life has been beautifully chaotic.

Somewhere in the middle of all that I lost my crojo (crochet mojo).

The funny thing is, I still have to go to meetings and fashion events looking like...well...a fashion designer. But most days I'm in the same sweatsuit covered in spit-up and you’d think I’d never even heard of fashion.

Between living in those two worlds and getting used to my ever-changing post partum body, getting dressed just started to feel...impossible

So naturally, as any self-respecting, yarn-obsessed girlie going through an identity crisis does... I went to my local yarn store Buku Yarns to find yarn… or myself… hopefully both.

Immediately I spotted this bowl of sparkly yarn, and that was it- my life was changed.

My design was inspired by the two store samples of the yarn. I loved that boxy T-Shirt look with the green sequins and I wanted to combine it with the elongated stitches in the Oh My Kaftan by Anna Enge.

I started to work on a fabric and figured out that Yo 4X pull through 5X was the stitch that gave me the right height for my design.

I'm not gonna say I invented a new stitch...but I'm also not not gonna say that.

The internet has been debating what it's actually called, so I made a little video showing how I'm doing it. If you've got thoughts on the name, come weigh in!

What would YOU call this stitch?!

Anyway...

Within 24 hours of leaving Buku, I had a new top and a new obsession.

I love this top because it's so easy to wear. Like you could throw it on with jeans to go to the store or grab a coffee.

It's low-key.

Except it's also ridiculously sparkly.

People have some VERY strong opinions about when it’s appropriate to wear sparkles.

If you think "I could never wear sparkles to Trader Joe's," I’m here to tell you- you don’t need that negativity in your life.

So that's my new thing.

Wear the sparkles.

Wear them because it's Tuesday.

You don't need an occasion.

You are the occasion.
