The Luna Dress

I originally designed the Luna Dress to wear for my first runway at New York Fashion Week.

I always try to get a chic, elegant, and sexy look when presenting as a designer. For my first fashion week, I wanted something bold and geometrically captivating so I decided to make a backless halter dress from my new favorite motif. The floor-length lace in black looked absolutely stunning and I felt I had accomplished the vibe I was after. This would not be the only time I chose to wear the Luna Dress to present on a runway. I made a glittery pale pink version with a high slit to wear at LA Swim Week Summer 2023 and it was the perfect selection yet again.

Since making the original dress, I have made several renditions that have graced the runway and have been very popular with my personal clients. I had many makers reach out for a pattern so I decided it was time to share this stunner with the fiber world!

As always, I had an incredible team of makers helping me bring this pattern to life!

Kate Hammitt always brings the heat for her tests and is easily one of the most glamorous makers you will find. Her style never disappoints and I about fainted when I saw these beautiful photos of her on the beach wearing the Luna Dress! She used 1721 yds of Originally Lovely Pura Yarn in colorway Moss to achieve her look.

I was extremely fortunate to be working with my friend Denise Clark on this pattern. Denise is an essential part of my testing teams and provides incredible insight for how to make a garment more wearable and size-inclusive. She used Lion Brand Coboo Yarn in a beautiful blushy pink to achieve her look and looks absolutely gorgeous in her dress!

Special thanks must be given to my tech editor Melissa Metz-Bower who never fails to fine tune my patterns to make sure makers have the best experience. I would be lost without her.

Also, thank you to Elsa Kisini who made beautiful crochet charts for the pattern. I’m sure all of the makers will appreciate her hard work to create this helpful tool for their making process.

I sincerely hope you love and enjoy this design as much as I do. I can’t wait to see what you make!

Xoxo,

Dominique
